THE HISTORY

Our Open Studios Weekend showcases the work of our Craftspeople and Designers. The Three yards offer family activities, live music and food & drink stalls. The Weekend falls on the first weekend of June and December each year.

Unsurprisingly, over time, what is produced in the yards has evolved. Once upon a time the yards boasted lace makers, fan makers and cabinet makers; who have been replaced by today’s Artists, Ceramicists, Filmmakers, Florists, Jewellers, Musicians, Tailors and many more! A few crafts have stayed, such as Furniture Designers and Letterpress Printers are here now, just as in the days of Queen Victoria.

Pullens Yards were purpose built for trade & craftspeople in the late 1880s. The studios have housed artisans — working with their hands — for over a hundred years.

Pullens Yard is a hidden gem tucked between Kennington and Elephant & Castle. We open up our units to the public twice a year: June and December. It consists of three separate yards - offering a vast range of artist/designer/makers.

The Pullens Estate has a fascinating history, thanks to its visionary builder and developer, James Pullen. Over 15 years, starting from 1886, Pullen acquired the land and meticulously crafted the quiet streets that now form the estate.
